In a surprising leap-frog of expectations, Malaysia Airlines has just revealed the upcoming interiors of the carrier’s 737-10 MAX regional fleet. There are currently 12 of these aircraft on order, and unlike the other 737’s operated by the carrier these new aircraft will do away with the 2 x 2 recliner seats and upgrade the Business Class cabin to 12 lie-flat seats.
The airline seems to be showcasing interiors by Adient Aerospace although it’s not clear if that will actually be the case (although that would be a perfect option). While not stating a delivery date for this new fleet – which is still awaiting certification –Malaysia Airlines plans to be flying 55 of the 737-8 and 737-10 MAX aircraft by 2030. This surprising upgrade shows Malaysia Airlines determination to keep up with regional competition which is already seeing the likes of Starlux, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines and China Airlines all offering flatbed seats on regional aircraft. In fact this move hopes to elevate the carrier to a Top 10 airline worldwide, and Top 5 within Asia.
